In Rainbow Fish class, we value the importance of developing children’s personal, social and emotional development and recognise it is crucial in supporting healthy development, leading happy lives and promoting cognitive development.

We understand how important child development is and try to embed the Characteristics of Effective Learning into the classroom:
Playing and Exploring - children investigate and experience things and ‘have a go’
Active Learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements
Creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things.

Pupils will be encouraged to develop effective communication systems eg symbol, sign, objects of reference, vocalisation or the use of technical devices to give them a voice. Joint attention activities help to provide children with opportunities to develop two-way communication, enjoy social interaction and relationships. The nursery provides a wide variety of experiences including physical and sensory activities and encourage children to engage with their learning.

Parent/Carer comments about their experience of Rainbow Fish Class

My daughter is thriving in Rainbow Fish class, every day she looks forward to going to school. All of the teaching staff are amazing, kind, fun, patient and caring. My daughters teacher cares about my daughter inside and outside of the classroom, when it was her party she couldn’t wait to hear all about it. I feel nothing but at ease sending my daughter to school, when I look back at how she started at the school to now and we haven’t even finished the year, I’m just blown away. Thank you rainbow fish team for helping my daughter to be the best she can be every single day.

Ellie and the Rainbow Fish team have been brilliant with X. He started year R with just a handful of words but now he can formulate his own sentences! We have also noticed that X's behaviour has improved so much compared to when he was in mainstream nursery. We also love seeing what they’re up to during the day on earwig as there’s always a new photo on there almost everyday. Speaking with Ellie on several occasions, you can tell that the whole team pay very close attention to his behaviour and his likes and dislikes. We are very appreciative of all the work Ellie and the whole team in rainbow fish do everyday. Thank you!

X has been attending rainbow fish class since September and we are utterly amazed at how much she has progressed. We cant thank Ellie and the staff team enough. They have given willow the right support and guidance and we know we definitely made the right choice sending our girl to St Nicholas. Such a fabulous school and staff! Ellie and the staff team are a real credit to St Nicholas. Thank you!
