St. Nicholas School takes its safeguarding responsibilities seriously. Pupil safety, health and well-being is our highest priority.
Stephen King is our school Designated Safeguarding Lead (Lead DSL) who supports Richard Dalton (Headteacher / Deputy DSL) manage safeguarding on a daily basis. We also have a large team of Deputy DSLs who are based across the main school campus and the satellite / off-site provisions. The school has a Safeguarding email address for correspondence outside the school – safeguarding@stns.org.uk.
The staff in school report any concerns about pupil health, safety, behaviour and well-being within the school day via the CPOMS online reporting system. In the event that our staff have an out-of-hours concern that a child is at significant risk of harm (evening, weekend, holiday periods – they do not wait but make a referral to themselves (via the KCC Front Door contacts): 03000411111 (9-5pm) or 03000419191 (out of office hours). Where staff have a concern that a pupil is at risk of immediate harm our staff know that they should contact the police to ensure safety by ringing 999
Operation Encompass
Our school is part of Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people who experience Domestic Violence and Abuse and which is in place in every police force in England and Wales.
Children were recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right in the 2021 Domestic Abuse Act.
Operation Encompass means that the police will share information with our school about all police attended Domestic Abuse incidents which involve any of our children PRIOR to the start of the next school day.
Once a Key Adult (DSL) and their deputy/ies (DDSLs) have attended either an Operation Encompass briefing or completed the online Operation Encompass Key Adult training they will cascade the principles of Operation Encompass to all other school staff and Governors.
The Safeguarding Governor will report on Operation Encompass in the termly report to Governors. All information is anonymised for these reports.
We have used the Operation Encompass Key Adult Responsibilities checklist to ensure that all appropriate actions have been taken by the school.
