Welcome everyone to S3A at Spires Academy

Throughout the year pupils will be building on their mathematics and literacy skills from years 7 and 8, as well as developing their independence and life skills to prepare themselves for the future and completing Entry Level accreditation in years 10/11.

We will continue to have access to the cookery rooms, library and sports hall in the main school.

Students will be completing the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, training throughout the years before completing their camping expedition in terms 5&6.

Class news (Home Learning details, Swimming & P.E days)

  • The new timetable is attached as well as a curriculum topic web for terms 1 and 2. 
  • Swimming will start in term 2 on a Friday, this term we will be community learning weekly, going to various supermarkets to buy groceries for their houses.
  • P.E is Tuesday afternoon.
  • Homework is set for the full long term and attached is a copy of the homework grid.
  • Spellings will be sent home on the Friday and should be revised throughout the week, ready to complete the assessment the following week. Five Dojo points are available to pupils who complete homework.
  • Information and messages will be sent home through email, Dojo and paper letters.
  • Pupil’s will have access to a variety of home learning resources and activities, and logins for all of these will be sent home. These include Active Learn, Maths Frame, TTRS and Rhino Readers.

Highlights from Term 1

Students have been learning about the Canterbury Tales over the last 3 weeks, and enjoyed a trip to the Canterbury Cathedral to learn about where Thomas Beckett was murdered.

Some students have enjoyed going Mountain Biking with Alexis at Ross Woods, developing physical cycling skills and bike maintenance.

Students have been going grocery shopping on Fridays with their shopping list that has been sent in by parents. They have been using the self checkouts and developing money skills and independence through in addition to buying snacks in the café.
